April 1 - 7, 2002 SKOPJE, April 8th, 2002 HUMANITARIAN SITUATION Displaced persons According to the latest registration, there are total of 14,159 IDPs accommodated by host-families, while 2,870 are accommodated in collective centers. This is the total number of IDPs registered by the Red Cross. According to the UNHCR, there are approximately 10,000 refugees (ethnic Albanians) accommodated in Kosovo. HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE Food On April 4, the French embassy and the "Zegin" company distributed flour and medicines for 100 households in Lesok and 100 in Lipkovo. The MCRC continues with the regular distribution of food packages for the displaced persons. Health The Ministry of Health will hire a medic for the Aracinovo clinic. The IFRC carried out a campaign for immunization of the children from the collective centers Suto Orizari and Katlanovo. Infrastructure On April 3, the UNHCR, through IRC and DRC started with distribution of building materials for 131 houses that suffered damage from 1st and 2nd category in the village of Vaksince. The CHAD is still not continuing with the activities for distribution of building material for the damaged houses in Matejce after the last month's incident. The Task Force Fox are developing a project for water supply and sanation for the Jegunovce municipality. Shelter Now International and the NGO Council are preparing a brochure for the standards for reconstruciton that will be distributed to the users. The European Perspective is continuing with the distribution of building materials for the houses that suffered damage from 2nd, 3rd and 4th category in the village of Aracinovo. Agriculture The U.S. Embassy in Macedonia donated equipment worth US$ 30,000 to the schools in Volkovo and Nikustani. The assistance is composed of school desks, chairs, kitchen appliances, Xerox machines etc. 19 schools are still on the priority list. Humanitarian demining On April 2, three teams of the International Trust Foundation started with demining activities of the area around the village of Matejce, in order to provide conditions for soon returning of the displaced persons to their homes. HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION Financing No new information about the distribution of the funds from the donors' conference for Macedonia.
